Terms of Service

Effective Date: 17 September 2026 | Governing South African Law

Statutory Notice: These Terms of Service constitute a legally binding agreement between you ("User" or "Consumer") and Candibean (Pty) Ltd ("Candibean", "we", "us"), governing your use of the Candibean Android mobile app, digital entertainment wallet, and website in accordance with the Consumer Protection Act (Act 68 of 2008) and the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act (Act 25 of 2002).

1. The Candibean Service

Candibean provides a dedicated digital entertainment wallet designed to help users set aside and ring-fence money specifically for social spending, including:

  • Digital event ticketing with zero hidden booking markups.
  • Prepaid vouchers for partner barbershops, hair salons, and grooming lounges.
  • Prepaid vouchers for verified auto detailing and car wash facilities.
  • Dedicated transport credits for rides (such as Uber) to ensure safe travel to and from venues.
  • Social Group Savings Pots allowing multiple users to pool funds for shared events.

2. Eligibility & Account Security

To register and maintain an account on Candibean, you must:

  • Be at least 18 years of age or possess legal guardian consent under South African law.
  • Provide accurate and complete registration information (name, mobile number, and valid email).
  • Maintain the confidentiality of your authentication credentials. You are responsible for all actions conducted under your account.

3. Wallet Credits & Currency Parity

Candibean Credits represent prepaid utility value loaded by you into the app for social and entertainment spending:

  • Parity: 1 Candibean Credit is equivalent to R1.00 South African Rand (ZAR).
  • Top-Up Models & Transparent Processing Fees: In accordance with Section 49 of the Consumer Protection Act (CPA) and Section 43 of ECTA, all platform fees are fully disclosed prior to checkout:
    • Pay-As-You-Go Credits: Users may top up their balance ad-hoc whenever desired with zero recurring commitments. Ad-hoc top-ups incur a standard Pay-As-You-Go Concierge & Processing fee of 7% displayed transparently at checkout.
    • Subscription Stashes: Users may choose an automated monthly stash (e.g. Starter Stash) that auto-loads credits on the 1st of each calendar month.
  • Statutory Validity: In accordance with Section 63 of the Consumer Protection Act, loaded prepaid credits remain valid for a minimum period of three (3) years from date of purchase. Pay-As-You-Go credits do not expire on a monthly basis.
  • Service Provider Status (Non-Banking Entity): Candibean (Pty) Ltd is an entertainment technology and service provider, not a registered commercial bank under the South African Banks Act (Act 94 of 1990). Wallet balances do not constitute banking deposits and do not accrue interest.
  • Closed-Loop System & No Cash Withdrawals: Candibean operates a closed-loop platform. Wallet credits (whether originally loaded or credited from event cancellations, pot disbands, and refunds) are non-withdrawable to external bank accounts, debit/credit cards, or physical cash. All credits remain permanently available within your in-app wallet balance to purchase event tickets, service vouchers, or transport credits on the platform. 4. Peer-to-Peer & Business Credit Transfers ("Scan or Send")

Candibean enables authenticated wallet holders to transfer credits to other individuals or registered commercial merchants:

  • Transfer Methods: Transfers may be initiated either by entering the recipient's registered email address or by scanning their unique in-person QR code via the camera scanner.
  • Recipient Identity Verification: Prior to authorizing a transfer, the system provides a safety confirmation displaying the recipient's masked personal name (e.g., P*** N*****) or authorized business trading name. It is the sender's legal obligation to review and confirm the recipient's identity before completing the transaction.
  • Transaction Finality & Non-Reversibility: Due to the immediate, atomic nature of digital ledger transfers, all confirmed credit transfers are final, irrevocable, and non-reversible. Candibean cannot claw back, cancel, or reverse transfers sent to an unintended recipient due to sender error.
  • Merchant Transaction Fee: In accordance with Section 49 of the CPA, transfers made to registered commercial partners (e.g. barbershops, car washes) incur a standard 3% merchant processing fee deducted from the sender's balance upon transfer. Peer-to-peer transfers between individual users carry zero transfer fees.

5. Event Tickets & Entrance Guarantees

When you purchase or request an event ticket through Candibean:

  • A secure digital check-in QR code is issued directly within your app under "My Tickets".
  • Presenting your valid QR code at the door guarantees entrance, subject to the venue's age restrictions and legal admission rules.
  • Candibean enforces a strict Zero Booking Fee policy on tickets—the price displayed is the final ticket cost.
  • Concierge Ticket Procurement: Where tickets are secured via our concierge request desk, tickets are prioritized with recent requests organized at the top for immediate access. Candibean acts as an authorized concierge intermediary; event access is provided subject to the event organizer's primary terms.

6. Partner Redemptions (Barbers, Car Washes & Transport)

Vouchers generated for partner barbers, car washes, and transport rides must be presented for verification via the merchant's Candibean Terminal scanner. Candibean acts as an intermediary technology provider; quality of service is backed by the respective authorised partner in accordance with Section 54 of the CPA.

7. Group Savings Pots & Disbanding Rules

Users may create or join collaborative Group Pots to save toward group milestones:

  • Pot contributions are tracked transparently among pot members.
  • Funds contributed to a Pot remain allocated to the designated event goal until ticket purchase or member withdrawal in accordance with pot rules.
  • 30-Day Goal Cycle: Group Pots operate on a maximum 30-day savings window toward the target event date.
  • Custodial Protection & Disband Refunds: Under Section 65 of the CPA, Candibean acts as a safe custodian of member contributions. If a POT is disbanded by the pot creator or expires before tickets are purchased, 100% of each member's contributed funds are automatically and immediately credited back to their respective personal Candibean in-app wallets. No member or administrator may divert or claim another participant's contributions upon disbandment.

8. Account Termination & Deletion

You have the absolute right to discontinue using Candibean at any time. You may permanently delete your account directly inside the Android app (via Profile → Delete Account) or by submitting an online deletion request at our Account Deletion Portal.

9. Governing Law & Dispute Resolution

These Terms are governed exclusively by the laws of the Republic of South Africa. In the event of an unresolved dispute, consumers retain all rights to escalate matters to the National Consumer Commission (NCC) or the South African Information Regulator.
